17th C. Ming Dynasty Period Chinese Officers Helmet

( ID: ca1207 )

This is a rare example of a 17th C. Chinese warrior's helmet dating to the transition from the Ming to the Qing Dynasties. The round chamfered form is an indication of early workmanship as are the studded pins that are part of the construction.

The Metropolitan Museum has an example of identical form, with silver foil decoration, which survived through storage in Tibet.

Our example remains in original condition and retains the original plume holder, with remnants of the cloth ear flaps.

Antique carved wood head is not included.
