17th C. Ottoman Turkish Khanjar Dagger, wootz blade (ID: md1174)
17th C. Ottoman Turkish Khanjar Dagger, wootz blade
|( ID: md1174 )|
A rare example of a classic type of an Ottoman Turkish khanjar of the mid 17th C. These are found in museum collections around the world, the finest being in the Turkenbeute of the Dresden Kunstkammer.
This example is a good example of the type, with the archtypal wide wood grips of half lunette form and slim waist form, made of a type of Balkan hardwood. The blade keeps to form and is made of the earlier form of Turkish wootz from the early 17th c.
