|( ID: ia929 )|
A fine 18th C. Mughal shield of classic Indo-Persian dhal or sipar shape formed from hardened and lacquered leather in the style of tortoiseshell. This example retains much of the original coloration, and the six bosses, four large ones with parcel silver overlaid and two smaller ones of silver with Lucknow enamel style work. The shield also retains the original hand pillow and the original cloth carrying strap that would have secured the shield the back of the wearer when not in use.
A fine and original example of 20" diameter.
