18th C. South Indian Toradar Matchlock Musket Rifle with Carved Iron Barrel

( ID: if654 )

A fine late 18th C. South Indian Mysore matchlock. This example has a finely crafted and chiseled steel barrel with a carved peacock at the base of the barrel, an indication of Mysore manufacture. The rest of the barrel is carefully stipled to create an interesting effect.  The stock is made of more than one piece and is slightly loose where the joints are, but this can easily be fixed with a set of capucins.

Overall length is 64", barrel is 44".
