19th C. French Naval Dirk Dagger

( ID: ed538 )

A truly fantastic early naval dirk. The design and the quality of the work is the best I've seen on naval dirk. It is mounted with an all iron scabbard which perfectly fits the dagger and is of a very unique design. The handle is wood panelled mounted in iron and the quillons are in the shape of anchor ends. The entire handle is shaped like an anchor and is very pleasing to the eye, and also holds very well in hand. Likely a custom made dirk for a naval officer, by the quality of the work and the design it is likely French, 1840-1860 period.

Length - 14", blade - 8.75"
