19th C. Russian Caucasian Dagestan Wootz Watered Steel Shashka Sword
|( ID: is386 )|
It is very rare to find a shashqa with a wootz watered blade. This is one of those examples. The blade is in very nice condition with a beautiful watered pattern visible throughout the whole blade. The ricasso is wonderfully chiseled with arabic motifs done in the Caucasian manner, and the obverse side has a gold koftgari cartouche. The designs are Caucasian and the shape of the blade is purely the shape of a shashka blade, further indicating it was made in the Caucasus region and not a Persian trade blade (see our Syrian shamshir in this new update for a blade of similar but not Caucasian type). Overall length is 36", blade is 29".
