Circa 1700 Tibetan Char Aina or Four Mirrors Armor
|( ID: ca1224 )|
An exemplary set of Tibetan Chair Aina armor dating to circa 1700. This example is in the form of the four mirrors and is influenced classically by early Central Asian armor which were adapted for use by Tibetan monks into the melong, or the Tibetan mirror which is used in ritual ceremonies.
This is the only known example of this type we're aware of and is embellished with gilt brass or copper decoration around the outside of the main plate and with symbols in the center areas of the remaining plates including two vajras a skull and the face of a garuda.
An exceptionally rare example of superb workmanship.
