Very rare 15th-16th C. German Italian Polish Gothic War Hammer or Czekan

Very rare 15th-16th C. German Italian Polish Gothic War Hammer or Czekan

( ID: ea1177 )

A very interesting and early war hammer of interesting design.  Judging by the quality of the work, the hand forging visible on the hammer head, and the interesting early Germanic decoration, we judge this to be an early war hammer to the Gothic period, possibly as early as the 15th C., but more likely an armory example of the early 16th-mid 16th century.  There is also a possibility that it is an early Polish war hammer as well, a czekan, which were known in this form as well. The head is formed of a hammerhead on one side and a long spike on the other, with the weight interestin...

Fine Circa 1600 German Pappenheimer Rapier Panzerstecher with Tuck or Estoc Blade

( ID: es1067 )

A rare style of sword from the period of the 30 Years War.  This is a pappenheimer hilted tuck or estoc sword. The pappenheimer hilt was popular in the early 17th C. and is usually found with stiff rapier blade. However the blade on this example is a very thick armor piercing estoc blade, very rarely found.   The tuck normally would be carried hanging from the saddle, and was used as early as the 1320s as an additional side arm for the cavalry.
