Excellent 18th C. English or American Naval Dirk Dagger

( ID: ed596 )

A very finely made 18th C. naval dagger. This example is mounted with whalebone scales, and comes with the original scabbard made of finely grained fishskin.  The blade, crossguard and tang are made of a single piece of metal making this an exceptionally deadly stabbing weapon.  The tip of the blade swells to make an armor piercing point, but also to make it easier to open up tightly wound knots of rope found on sailing vessels of the 19th C. and before.  The blade is also finely etched with different scenes as well.

Overall lenght - 10.5", blade  - 6.25"
