Extraordinarily Rare Dated 1747 Imperial Russian Ilya Salischev Pair of Flintlock Pistols
|( ID: rf1062 )|
An extraordinary pair of pistols of superb quality. These are attributed to the import Imperial Russian gunsmith Ilya Salischev.
The locks are beautifully chiseled again in the exact typical style of that period, particularly the 1740s, and display the characteristic quality that Salischev put into his guns with hunting scenes, and wonderful carved iron details. Another distinctive Salischev feature is the partially suspended flashpan, in a miniature lattice of iron, a beautiful feature.
The underside of both locks are signed Tula and dated 1747 with the "4" turned backwards and distinctive sign of Salischev work or of his workshop. For this see Fine Arms of Tula Flintlock Fowling Piece in photos 38-40. I don't have the page number unfortunately as the book is in my other apartment.
For the exact similar style of damascus and silver inlay as well a similar two stage design with a silver band between the stages, on a rifle dated 1744 see "Russische Prunkwaffen und Rustungen" photos 95-97.
