Fine 18th C. Indian Mughal Shamshir, excellent condition
|( ID: is1020 )|
A fine 18th C. Indian Mughal form shamshir of graceful design and curvature. The blade is curved of dark wootz steel, expertly forged of two different types on each side with a perfectly forged line visible along the spine. A tour de force of the smith's art and significantly harder to create that one with a solo type of iron. Crossguard of wootz steel with slender languets, faceted fig-shaped quillon tips and decorated with panels of gold koftgari florals and borders framing diamond-shaped panels 'in-the-white'; gilded spine; pommel cap with gold overlaid florals and Nastaliq inscriptions; fine grips scales are molded for the fingers.
There is somewhat visible kirk pattern as well, not perfect but finely executed nonetheless on one side of the blade.
Overall length is 38".
