Fine 18th C. Ottoman Turkish Shamshir/Kilich Sword with Sham Wootz blade
|( ID: ms1145 )|
A large 18th-early 19th C. Ottoman Turkish shamshir with a kilich style double edged form at the blade tip. The large original scabbard is covered in the orignal red velvet, now worn, with the fine chiseled silver fittings of heavy construction. The gripscales are horn, and display one original old repair.
The overall condition of the sword is very good and the blade is clean and displays a latent sham wootz pattern which can be seen in some areas. Further cleaning would likely bring out a stronger pattern.
The blade form itself is heavy with a thick spine and double edge for the remaining ten inches with an overall blade length of 31". OVerall sword length is 37".
