An elegant example of a south Indian shamshir with a beautifully formed handle with three lobed quillons indicative of more southern Indian origins. This example likely dates to the mid 18th C. and has a fine and wide heavy watered steel wootz blade composed of interesting Indian wootz. The fittings are also wootz and in fine condition though one of the hanging rings is now missing.
A very elegant sword of rare shape and proportions.
