Fine 18th C. Sri Lankan Ceylonese Piha/Pia Kaetta Dagger Knife
|( ID: id1129 )|
A very nice example of an early Sri Lankan or Ceylonese piha kaetta dagger. The hilt is of black coral, finely carved and detailed with a liya-pata pattern. The pommel is encased in a chiseled silver piece of typical form, but of finer than normal quality. The hilt is further embellished with fine diamond-shaped leaf motif plaques in silver.
The blade is inlaid in brass and silver of delicate chiseled and true inlay form, while the crossguard area is finely chiseled and pierced through.
A fine and large example and representative of some of the best Sri Lankan workmanship. Overall length is 13".
