Fine 19th C. Masonic Memento Mori Skull Dagger with flamberge wavy blade
|( ID: ed1281 )|
Rarely have we had such a fine quality Masonic dagger but this example in perfect condition with mother of pearl grips and mounted with a skull and crossbones pommel and crossguard exemplifies the quality that was sometimes found on Masonic arms and regalia.
This dagger 18 1/2" in length and with a 12"blade, razor sharp and wavy like an early 17th c.flamberge rapier, retains all of the original gilding along the blade displaying numerous Masonic images including the skull and crossbones motif at the ricasso with the text "Memento Mori", the square and compass symbolizing virtue and the wisdom of conduct, the sheaf of corn representing the fruit of masonic labors, the globe, the masonic apron and others.
Condition is superb, and mounted in German silver or white metal.
