Fine early 20th C. Nationalist Wuchang Period Chinese General's or High Officers Sword
|( ID: cs986 )|
A very rare early 20th C. Chinese Officers or Generals sword, Japanese made, with a very fine, heavy, and sharp blade with an etched hamon pattern. The handle displays the flag and symbol of the the Iron Blood 18-star symbol of the Wuchang Uprising. The Wuchang period lasted from 1912-1928 and was a tumultuous period in Chinese history. This sword would have belonged to a high officer or General in the Wuchang army. The handle is veneered with tortoiseshell and is very finely fitted with very fine chiseled fittings. The scabbard is wood covered with chromed iron and fits to the handle with a small push latch. Blade needs to be cleaned but otherwise a very rare sword of inordinate quality from a very interesting period in modern Chinese history.
Overall length is 36".
