FINEST 19th C. Presentation Rajput Mughal Indian Wootz Tulwar
|( ID: i335 )|
Really one of the best tulwar I've ever handled, late 18th-early 19th C from Northwest or Northcentral India. Gold inscription on the inside of the handle in Sanskrit or Urdu. Gold remains in over 99% condition. The blade is wonderful rich wootz with ladders forged into it, not completely kirk narduban but with numerous ladders. The reinforcing strip on the blade retains almost 100% of gold decoration. The scabbard is original and is mounted with very finely chiseled gilt iron fittings, not cast brass. Wallace Collection quality tulwar, and extremely uncommon with the reinforcing strip on a curved blade. Overall 35", blade is 29 1/2"
