Description

A very large lobster claw mounted as a powder flask. In the 18th and early 19th centuries novelty powder flasks were made from a variety of different materials including whole small tortoises and in some cases oversized lobster claws.

This example likely dates to the late 18th- mid 19th C. and is mounted with pewter or white metals mounts.

A very decorative example and normally found without the smaller claw this example retains the whole claw, and would have belonged to an exceptionally large lobster specimen.
