Late 16th-17th C. Dutch or Flemish armored helmet
|( ID: ea1195 )|
A fine Flemish or Dutch helmet dating to the period 1550-1600, brim 13 inches by 10 ¼ inches, height 10 inches. Very finely constructed, forged in two halves, with seven finely raised facets to either side, which terminate in a very unusual spiked comb. The distinctive brim peaks gracefully at front and back and bears rolled, roped borders around its circumference en suite with that of the comb. Ten original brass rosettes retained the lining, now worn away, while the entire exterior of the helmet retains all of its original black finish.
Condition is excellent for its age, very solid, russet interior.
