Asano Kanesane, also spelled Kanezane, is one of the better documented swordsmiths of the Showa (WW II) Era. He was born Asano Shinichi on December 19th 1910 in the city of Seki in Mino (Noshu) Province and was apprenticed to master swordsmith Kojima Kanemichi in 1923. In April of 1930, he became an independent swordsmith and adopted the art name of Kanesane. A very rare 16 th C. Koto blade mounted in very fine WWII officers mounts of the best quality, with a pierced and gilt tsuba and fine other fittings. The blade is unsigned and is straight with a nice temper line that can be seen. The blade has a few issues which are best seen in the pictures but for a rare blade and very nice fittings the price is fair and negotiable. Overall length is 38", blade cutting edge is 25 1/2". ...
