Rare 18th C. Chinese Goosequill Yanmadao Sword (ID: cs552)
Rare 18th C. Chinese Goosequill Yanmadao Sword
|( ID: cs552 )|
An interesting and completely original 18th C. Chinese yanmaodao. This example is mounted with brass which retains a fine patina, and fine goosequill blade also with an original patina, which could be cleaned very nicely. The crossguard is slightly shaky but the sword is otherwise tight, an easy fix. These types of swords were primarily developed after the zhibeidao or the straight back knife, a zhibeidao is vailable for sale in our Chinese section (these were used during the Song Dynasty), and can be dated to between the 16th -early 19th C. Overall is 33", blade is 27"
