Rare Ayda Katti Sword of the Coorgs

( ID: i329 )

This example is a very fine example of the Ayda Katti which is the national sword of the Coorg of Malabar, the South West coastal area of India. It likely dates from the 19th C. but is of much higher decorative design than most examples seen, including an interesting brass sharpened tip. The inside of the blade is sharpened, which reminds one of the sickle shaped tools used in traditional agriculture. Overall length is 19", blade is 12".
