Rare Early Chinese Qing Damascus Lamellar Zhibeidao Sword

    Description

    A very uncommon and rare style of Chinese sword, zhibeidao. Characterized by a very heavy broad one side blade these are early swords, used as far back as the Shang Dynasty. This example is mounted in standard 19th C. mounts, but the blade could be considerably older and is of a very fine lamellar construction with a visible hardened edge. The blade is thickly constructed and of very nice quality with an interesting sharpened false edge. The handle is in very nice condition with original wrapping. The scabbard is in restorable condition, with many of the original fittings. Overall length is 31, blade is 22, width is 1 1/2, tghickiness is 1/4 at the ricasso.
