Rare Full 19th C. Qajar Persian Armor Set with Char Aina, Helmet, Bazuband (armguard), and Shield
|( ID: ia1017 )|
A fine set of 19th C. Persian Qajar period armor. This set features the usual helmet, shield, and bazuband, but also has the original and beautiful crafted char aina, or four mirrors, in the rare fitted armor set, and actually composed of five parts, with the two front halves closing in the middle with a thing wire that goes the length and claps them in place.
The metal on all four components is etched and overlaid with silvert koftgari, with close to matching designs on the helmet, bazuband, chest armor, and shield. The chest armor is a particularly rare component part and uncommon to find in any condition and the quality of the etched design is really beautiful with playful does and Qajar era motifs throughout, in addition to caligraphic script. The set also retains much of the original red cloth backing.
Shield diameter is 18".
