RARE Large Ottoman Empire 19th C. Wootz Horn Shamshir Sword
|( ID: ms556 )|
A great 19th C. Ottoman Empire shamshir of nice large proportions. This example is mounted with a much wider and larger than usual blade, than is usually found on these types of mid 19th C. Tanzimat period swords. The blade has a vivid wootz pattern visible throughout, and has a gold inlaid cartouche at the base. The handle and scabbard are mounted in silver and have wonderfully matching artillery cannon designs, the first time I've seen this matching design, and are also silver hallmarked with a tughra. The handle scales are very fine antique horn and very fine condition.
38 1/2" overall length. 32 3/4" length blade.
