Superb 18th C. Spanish Miquelet Pistol by maker Joan Deop

Deop was Ripoll`s first family of gunsmiths. They supposedly immigrated from Germany in the mid sixteenth century, and were still manufacturing gun locks well into the nineteenth century. The size and long history of this family contributes to the confusion when trying to identify an individual maker though this example is clearly signed Joan Deop. He is known to have made another pistol now currently in theCollectton of the Porte de Hal in Brussels and is noted as having made a lock in 1715. This pistol is likely later to the mid 18th C. but is in superb condition with the original blued barrel, silver furniture, and miquelet lock in fine condition.
