Very fine 19th C. Sri Lankan Piha Kaetta or Piha Kahetta with carved grip

( ID: id679 )

A very nice example of an early Sri Lankan Piha Kahetta dagger. These Sinhalese daggers were of varying quality. This example has a very finely carved grip mounted in silver. The silver pommel cap is slightly loose.  The blade is heavy iron construction chiseled and displaying the deep patina characteristic of Sri Lankan pia kaetta. Overall solid and tight.
