Very fine early 19th C. Silver Gilt Ottoman Turkish Khanjar or Jambiya

Sold

    Description

A fine early 19th C. example of a Turkish khanjar of classic form but of large and heavy size. This example is entirely chiseled en suite with floral Ottoman baroque designs. The silver also remains in exceptional condition, with fine detailingand much of the original gilding remaining.

The silver is hallmarked with a Sultan's tughra, indecipherable now unfortunately. The blade is a very fine late 18th C. form that is aesthetically similar to earlier 17th c. forms that were mounted on daggers captured at the Battle of Vienna in 1683.

The overall size is large at 24 in length with a 18 blade.
