Very rare 18th C. Thailand Narai Hok Spear from Ayutthan Period

( ID: cs1066 )

An exceptional Thai spear from the Ayutthayan period, likely 18th C. This example is mounted with a gilded silver and niello inlaid spearhead socket with a hollow ground blade that flares at the tip, a typical Thai feature. The haft is made of a very pleasing style of bamboo, known to be used on these types of spears, and which offers the spearman a very good grip with the characteristic bamboo spherical sections creating natural hand grips.

This example also has the original scabbard for the blade, a very rare feature.
