Ahmad Al-Makki

Ahmad al-Makki's signature is found on the sword of one of the companions of the Prophet,'Ammār ibn Yāsir (d. 37 hijra/ 657 C.E.). This sword has the distinction of being the earliest known Islamic sword to contain the inscription of a swordsmith. The nature of the calligraphy, however, seems to suggest that the name was a later addition, perhaps even as late as the tenth century hijra/sixteenth-century C.E. (See Plate No.22)
