# Amukta

One of the divisions or classes of weapons recognized by the ancient Hindus. It means “unthrown” and comprises 20 species. According to Hindu tradition, weapons are divided into classes: Yantramukta (thrown by machines), Panimukta (hand-thrown), Muktasandharita (thrown and drawn back), and Mantramukta (thrown by spells). These form the Mukta or thrown class of twelve species. This is contrasted with Amukta (unthrown), Muktamukta (either thrown or not), and Bahuyuddha (weapons used in personal struggles). (Burton, Sword, p. 214).
