Aq Qoyunlu Turkmen

The Aq Qoyunlu (White Sheep) was a federation of Turkmen tribes arising in the fourteenth century in south-eastern Anatolia. Around 147o, the power of the alliance extended all the way to Baghdad and the Persian Gulf, but in 1501 it was defeated by Shah Ismail, the founder of the Safavid Empire in Iran.
