# 1830\-1850 Imperial Caucasian Lifeguards Unit Bazuband Armguards

Status: Sold · Type: Armor

A very rare Imperial russian Caucasus-Mountains' half-squadron of His Imperial Majesty Konvoi escort set of bazuband armguards. This elite unit was formed in 1828 by Nicholas I's order to serve at the Imperial Court's Konovoi escort. Eastern konvoi was formed from the voluntarily conscripted local high nobility shortly after Russia's conquest of the Northern Caucasus with the political mission of showing the people of the Caucasus that the Russian government desired their wellbeing and not their oppression. Members of the Imperial konvoi were issued fancy parade uniforms and a hefty salary. By Imperial order and paid for by the Imperial treasury, matching sets of a helmet and arm- guards were made in the mid-1830's at the Tula Arms factory specifically for the members of the Eastern Konvoi . Each helmet was richly decorated at great expense to imitate traditional 18th century Circassian examples. Officers of the unit received a more richly decorated Taj type helmet while private cavalrymen received a Misiurka type. The half-squadron original uniforms were in use by every member of the squadron until 1882, after that only natives of the Northern Georgian region of Kabarda wore the uniform which became known as historical. This set of bazubands is completely original and has riveted links and an old bullet hole which went through one side of the armguard out of the other, breaking a few of the links. A very rare set to find in any condition.
