18th C. Afghan Wootz Pulwar

Status: Sold · Region: Middle East, Ottoman Turkey, Persia · Type: Swords

The nicest Afghan pulwar I've seen. This example is mounted with a gorgeous Persian wootz blade, of very wide proportions with chiselleing throughout and with a Sun and Lion cartouche at the base. The blade is untouched and displays its original finish, with a strong wootz pattern visible throughout. The handle is very finely formed example of the classic Afgan pulouar style, with a North Indian addition of a d-guard with brass inlaid designs of very nice quality. The scabbard appears to be original to the sword and fits perfectly, but the velvet is likely replaced. A beautiful sword and fine addition to an advanced Eastern collection. 36 1/2 overall. Blade 31 in length, 1 1/2 wide. ON HOLD
