18th C. Moroccan Wootz Nimcha Sword
Status: Sold · Region: Middle East, Ottoman Turkey, Persia · Type: Swords
This is one of the rarest nimchas I've ever seen. Usually these kinds of swords are mounted with a European trade blade of poor quality or captured European sword blade. In this case, this nimcha has a gorgeous Persian wootz blade with a chiselled forte and with two cartouches on one side. The wootz can been seen throughout the entire blade and is good Persian wootz with fine contrast. The blade has some pitting in the deeper recesses but is otherwise in very fine condition. The handle is in gorgous condition as well and is mounted with a huge horn handle and an also very uncommon four, as opposed to three, pronged crossguard. The original scabbard is in good condition as well with no significant wear or breaks. OAL 41
