18th C. Ottoman Turkish Silver Jambiya
Status: Sold · Region: Middle East, Ottoman Turkey, Persia · Type: Daggers
A very fine and early large 18th C. Ottoman Turkish wootz blade jambiya. This example has its original scabbard which identifies it as Ottoman Turkish as opposed to the more common Persian jambiya. This is evident in the fine Turkish style floral silver chase and repousse work on the scabbard. Other indicators are the gorgeously aged massive walrus handle which does not follow a Persian style but rather is Turkish in design and finally the beaded silver work at the top of the scabbard as well as Turkish style scabbard finial. The blade is Stambouli wootz which is somewhat different from Persian style wootz in the color which is closer to yellow rather than the white and black of Persian wootz. A fine early Ottoman jambiya. Overall length - 20 Blade - 14
