18th C. Ottoman Turkish Wootz Shamshir

Status: Sold · Region: Middle East, Ottoman Turkey, Persia · Type: Swords

A very fine and interesting 18th C. Ottoman shamshir. This example is mounted with very nice ensuite steel mounts, which may be wootz but which appear to have been polished out. The fittings are all in very nice clean condition except for the crossguard which is lcea but has two breaks at the ricasso. The crossguard is still completely tight with no shaking at all. The blade is a very fine Persian wootz blade with a gold inlaid cartouche which may be an Assadullah mark. The blade was at one point broken and fixed with a steel piece connecting the two parts. The blade is otherwise in very good condition with excellent watering visible throughout. Overall length is 38, blade is 32
