1920s Chinese Warlord Presentation Sword
Status: Sold · Region: China, East Asia, Tibet · Type: Swords
An extremely rare sword. This examples mimics almost exactly a very rare dagger sold by us three years ago, picture attached. This style was called the warlord style for it's archaic style of crossguard and was popular with the warlords who presided over the dissolution of the Chinese republic during the 1920s and early 30s. The quality of this sword and the size testify to it's having been a presentation sword to one of those warlords. The design and the construction, with an all metal scabbard and chiseled, and at one time gilded brass fittings, match perfectly with the dagger that we had sold several years ago. For reference please see the last picture in the listing. The handle likely on this example was painted black as the one in the dagger, and then lacquered, an easy fix. The sword could be cleaned up but is an otherwise very rare example of this style. Overall length is 37, blade is 30.
