19th C. Persian Qajar Officer's Shamshir
Status: Sold · Region: Middle East, Ottoman Turkey, Persia · Type: Swords
A gorgeous example of an Qajar officers shamshir from the 19th C. This example is mounted with a large handle in nearly perfect condition, with a very nicely detailed and formed silver crossguard, on one side is the Persian Lion and on the other in Farsi it says Tehrani. The scabbard is in very nice condition with only one old repair near the chape but is otherwise in good condition with very nice tombac or brass fittings in the Persian style. The blade is a very fine with a strong black wootz which can be seen throughout. An unusual and rare example of a Qajar Officer's shamshir, as it is clearly influenced by European mamluke style swords. OAL 37, Blade is 27 when measured from the tip to the crossguard. The curve is quite deep.
