19th C. Qajar Persian Kindjal

Status: Sold · Region: Middle East, Ottoman Turkey, Persia · Type: Swords

An absolutely massive and probably one of a kind late 18th C. to early 19th century Persian Qajar era qama. Saying it is a kindjal or a qama just doesn't do justice to this piece. It is tremendous and of very good quality. Please see the comparison picture with a normal sized Persian qama (which is not available with this piece but is for sale separately). This piece has a massive finely made handle of horn scales in traditional kindjal shape with chiseled steel fittings. The blade is tremendous and chiseled on both sides the entire way with gold filled recesses where the blade is chiseled with foliage. In the middle fullers the blade has a pattern welded damascus pattern which may be etched or actual pattern welded, it is hard to tell. The scenes throughout are Qajar era scenes of the ancient Persian prince Rustam and also has the chiseled image of the sun, another standard Persian motif. The blade is extremely sharp. The original scabbard is fully covered with original Persian tooled leather and even has a smaller knife insert as well, a type of kard. It has a matching etched damascus pattern and is in nice condition. Overall this is a one of a kind item.
