19th C. Tombak South Indian Dagger
Status: Sold · Region: Islamic Antiques · Type: Other
A gorgeous and nearly perfect condition South Indian dagger in the arabian style. This example is made of golt covered copper, better known as tombac from the Ottoman Empire. However this example originates either in the Sind in northern India, or in south India, in the 19th C. Both areas had large populations of Arabs who settled following voyages along the Indian Ocean monsoon trade. This piece would likely have been commissioned as the quality of the chisel work is outstanding and the quality of the tombac itself is veryfine, looking very much like real gold, which was the point.
