# Early 18th C. Ottoman Shamshir Dagger with Gold inlays

Status: Sold · Region: Middle East, Ottoman Turkey, Persia · Type: Swords

A very rare and early Ottoman shamshir. This example is a sister piece to two items from the Moscow Military Museum. This example is mounted with a very rare early blade with gorgeous gold koftgari work all along the blade throughout and on the other side of the blade as well. The Quranic verses run inside a snake throughout the blade, and are also inlaid near the ricasso. The original scabbard fits perfectly, and the crossguard is an original Turkish tombac crossguard in very nice condition, and was mounted later in the life of the piece. See the two sister blades of this shamshir on page 116-118 of Astvatsurian's Turkish Arms. Overall length is 37 , 31 blade and 1 1/4 wide.
