A fine example of a classic 17th C. Spanish rapier made by the famous bladesmith Juan Martinez of Toledo. <span style=color:rgb(0, 0, 0)The single- fluted ricasso extends into the guard, with JUAN MARTINEZ EN TOLEDO in the flutes and a combined square and hexagonal cross-section, transitioning to a lozenge profile for the rest of the length. The ricasso has the town mark of Toledo at the lower end of the guard. The guards is fitted with a pair of straight quillions, 8 1/4 inches wide, with the basket section extending from the knuckleguard up above the quillions. With a wire wrapped ribbed grip and an octagonal pattern pommel.
