Qajar Persian Set of Armor

Status: Sold · Region: Middle East, Ottoman Turkey, Persia · Type: Armor

A classic and fine quality 19th century Qajar period set of armor. These were made throughout the period of the Zand Empire through to the late Qajar period of the early 1900s.

This armor set, judging by the quality of the workmanship and etching, likely dates to the mid 19th century. The overall design template for the set is the use of etched cartouches with Arabic caligraphy, bordered in brass. The helmet, sipar (shield), and bazuband (armguard), all feature the same design elements and remain in very nice condition. The chainmail coif on the helmet is of alternating iron and brass links and remains in fine condition.
