# Thai Narai Hok Spear

Price: $9,000.00 · Region: China, East Asia, Tibet · Type: Armor

**At a glance.** Ayutthaya Thailand, 18th century. Iron, silver, wood. Overall length 72"; blade 12". Narai Hok spear with silver-damascened iron socket and carved hardwood haft.

This example has the classic multifaceted socket in iron, fully decorated in silver damascene. The crossguard appears to be darkened silver, carved in Ayutthaya-period Thai style. The haft is a black hardwood shaft finely carved throughout. The type is named for King Narai the Great (Ramathibodi III, r. 1656–1688) of the Ayutthaya Kingdom (1351–1767).

Ayutthayan spears of this class typically combine a long thrusting blade with ornamental metalwork and a durable wooden shaft; they formed part of infantry equipment alongside daab swords and bows.
