A fine 18th c, blackened iron Venetian or Croatian mercenary broadsword. This example has a fine hilt with a unique pommel likely from a rapier and period done with a heavy and fine formed broadsword blade. The handle wire wrap is loose but the sword is tight overall. It is likely that all parts are original judging from the age evident throughout and the original patina, however some binder was applied at some point where the blade meets the handle, and which was covered with some point. Otherwise all original with no issues.
Overall length is 40.
