This Indian temple sword likely dates from the 16th-17C. and possibly originates from the Malabar coast. These examples are normally found in poor to middling condition and quality. This piece contravenes all of that, and is of superb quality. The brass cast on the handle recalls some of the more complex Hindu brass sculpture of the 14-17centuries, and likely this was made by one of the more masterful practitioners of that art.
An exceptional addition to any advanced collection of Indian arms and armor.
