A fine and original example of a Civil War period British made, Robert Mole Co, naval cutlass that was retailed in the famed South Carolina civil war period retailers, Courtney and Tennant. Mole was the primary Englishexporter ofmilitary goods and swords to the Confederate central government through the importer Courtney Tennant of Charleston, SC. In addition to Courtney Tennant cavalry sabers, Mole also produced naval cutlasses for the Confederacy. George Tennant wasthe primary procurer for the Confederate State Navyfromheavy cannon to the porcelain cookwareused on theship.
The cutlass blade, is 20” long, double-edged, 1¾” wide at the grip and has a single, tapering fuller on each flat. The sword is completely tight and displays perfect age with wonderful patination on the brass grip.
A rare addition to any Confederate collection.
